August 2012 - STREETS The Musical @ The Edinburgh Fringe

Here we are!!!
10 days at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

We got used to our venue quickly as we literally dumped our stuff and in less than 10 minutes put our set together on stage, we were pros as practiced in rehearsals! We got mic’d up and did a sound check. We ran through a couple numbers and practiced the fight scenes in our new space. It was a lot small than what we have performed on before but we managed and adjusted ourselves quickly!

I cannot be happier with how the Fringe went! Hard work certainly pays off! Not only did we put our all into every single performance, we were out on the streets promoting the show and managed to sell lots of tickets, the audiences also seemed to enjoy our show!
We performed a couple times on the royal mile stages and attracted crowds of people. We also managed to give small performances and previews of the show outside our venue. We learned some tricks for promoting shows.

1. Chalking pavements – Make big and clear it’s not illegal use arrows!

2. Have a big team of people flyering. Spread out!

3. Try to not just give away flyers. They did cost money!
4.Try and get people’s interest, speak with them are they free to go? DO they like musical theatre?

5. At points join together and sing a couple songs get crowds attention.

6. Use social networking sites to update your progress and promote show with blogs, pics and vids!

7. Have a good poster that sells your show for what it is!

8. Take advantage of the amount of people, companies and shows going about. Go see them and especially ones similar to yours, flyer before after that show and meet the cast get to know them and offer to help promote their if they do in return.

9. Keep working on show, don’t relax into it. Always warm up and keep on top of the material, give notes and take them.

10. Rest! Yes I know at the time it feels like you do not have a break. Always take time to relax have a nice meal, drink plenty water, take supplements and enjoy your time.
