December 2012 - Mother Goose - The Show Must Go On

The shows are going so well. Even though I have been full of the cold and struggling, I have powered through and literally sweated it out!

Yep I am a sweaty person, at least I know when I have been working hard! The lights and costumes make it worse at times! Not much I can do about that though!

Update....  people are ill so am I trying everything to get better, steaming my face all the time and drinking honey and lemon. I like doing things the natural way. Plenty rest is the key!
I wonder how many tights I’ll go through so far I have replaced one pair of stage tights.
Wigs are annoying, especially when dancing and in a quick change when you are sweating, a lot!

I think the stress of quick changes adds to the thrill of live theatre, I make it a game too, who can get dressed quickest without putting on things backwards, inside out or on their head, or in my experience punching them selves in the face putting a glove on literally just before walking on stage, yep I was not sure whether I had sweat pouring down my face or if it was a bleeding nose!

It is a great feeling after every show when we have a little extra time to get ready for curtain call enjoy the songs and reflect on the show! Then congratulate everyone and thanks them!

December 2012 - Mother Goose - Another Opening Of Another Show!!

Well that happened so quickly,
three weeks we rehearsed and rehearsed !

To be honest I haven’t felt so good about an opening of a new show before! Rachel O’Riordan has done a fantastic job directing this production and the fact that we feel confident show number one and feel good is fantastic!

I love our costumes too. My favourite is our Goosette’s. It is bright yellow, 50’s style dress, made to look all fluffy with turquoise long gloves and head-dress with matching shoes. In this outfit we do a spoof dance of single ladies after ugly duckling song!

December 2012 - Mother Goose - rehearsals

The show is really coming together and really enjoying getting to know other actors and hearing their stories. What I noticed is that they know EVERYONE! All they have to say is do you know John…aye….well he’s married now….really?....yeah to Jenny….aww I love Jenny. And it goes on like that! I usually have to mention a few different last names to get the right person, it’s very strange!

So the importance of networking!!

It has been quite tough as we are getting very close to opening and when it comes to ensemble work everything need to be big and exact! So the importance of perfection and effort!

I can get through this though our choreographer Brooke is a delight! Everyone says to me at different points how well I am doing and I look great. I do get quite self conscious at times as I am not a skinny lass and when paired with a professional dancer doesn’t make it easy to forget that! However I know for a fact I can do it and I do it my way, and as long as I give it my all and make sure I am on top of the material and looking after myself I will be fine!

Oh I forgot to mention I am understudying two roles. I have jumped in a couple times in rehearsal with script. If you saw my script right now!!! Multi coloured highlighters pencil markings for blocking and notes all over the place. I now have to make sure this stays in the brain.

Lots of line learning to do!
